Vertical grinders offer an advantage for measuring parts. Horizontal universal machines can not measure OD and ID surfaces with the probe device. Most of these are only used for end of coin marking. Internal and external diameters as well as faces can be accurately measured by the same device and can provide built-in feedback to the machine for size correction. This is useful on large parts because it is very laborious to remove parts for manual measurement or to try to measure them on the machine. The measuring probe has its own high-precision linear axis that allows it to be moved up and down to measure in several longitudinal positions. The measurement probe uses a calibration ring before each measurement to correct the thermal expansions that may occur between cycles in the room.

  1. Interference

Many machines require the headstock or tailstock to be moved/removed before sharpening. Interference problems between the wheel and the table are always a concern, and a mounting device that can reach the wheel and identification wheel can be a challenge.
